Register for The Big Event at KU

One big day. One big thanks. The Big Event at KU is a service project intended to bring the University of Kansas community closer to the larger community of Lawrence, Kan. Based on a service event begun by students at Texas A&M University in 1982, The Big Event has grown to include participation by more than 70 universities nationwide. The Big Event is designed to provide Lawrence community residents with a cost-free helping hand on projects around their neighborhoods and households.

Registration for the second annual Big Event at KU is open for volunteers and Lawrence community residents at www.thebigeventku.com. The Big Event will be on Saturday, March 31, 2012. KU students, faculty and staff will volunteer in two shifts, from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Volunteers may register individually or in groups for their preferred working shift on the Big Event website. Residents may request jobs online for private homes, organizations or institutions.

“We are excited to announce that registration for the Big Event has opened up,” said Daniel Bjornson, a KU junior and executive director for the 2012 Big Event at KU. “This year we plan to have more than 2,000 volunteers working at 400 sites. The Big Event at KU looks to continue its strong relationship with Lawrence and forge everlasting ties between the community and KU.”
